The crankshaft is the heart of the engine, and the quality of the crankshaft directly affects the quality of the whole automobile. Car engine crankshaft journals usually use medium frequency induction quenching process, FAW Group in the crankshaft surface heat treatment mainly using rotary quenching technology, the main shaft neck, connecting rod neck, flange and thrust surface surface treatment, this process has more than twenty years of history. With the progress of science and technology, people's requirements for crankshaft heat treatment are becoming higher and higher.
Crankshaft fracture is mostly fatigue fracture, and fatigue source is located in the crankshaft under the greatest force of the connecting rod neck R corner, so the crankshaft journal after induction quenching process, which can improve the hardness of the journal, increase its wear resistance, and journal corner quenching, crankshaft fatigue strength increased significantly, so its fatigue fracture possibility is greatly reduced accordingly. In addition, the crankshaft blank is stress relieved to effectively eliminate the stresses generated by the forging process, resulting in a reduction in subsequent cold working stresses, a release of pre-quenching stresses and a significant reduction in post-quenching deformation.
There are two ways to improve the fatigue strength of the crankshaft: one is to select different materials, such as alloy materials instead of 45 steel; the second is to use different processes, such as induction quenching of 45 steel crankshaft round corners, crankshaft round corners for rolling, crankshaft overall nitriding. The test proves that the round corner induction quenching crankshaft has the highest fatigue strength (996MPa), round corner rolling crankshaft fatigue strength second (890MPa), nitriding crankshaft third (720MPa).
